Thoughts about Jiu-Jitsu and the Universe

Today I was waiting in line to get some food, believe it or not I ordered a salad (of course it came with beef, rice and beans, but there was lettuce too, and a tortilla). The line was pretty long so while I was waiting I started thinking about how pathetic the whole scene was, all these people waiting in line for food. The hardest thing I did to get fed was stand in line and sign my credit card receipt. I didn’t hunt anything, I didn’t grow anything; I didn’t make anything. I stood and waited and paid, that’s it. My hunter/gatherer ancestors would have been pissed. Shit, I felt pathetic (it didn’t stop me from eating what I ordered though).

I think that’s why we seek out things like jiu-jitsu, or running, or bull fighting or anything that isn’t easy, anything that isn’t waiting in line. We’re human beings, damn it, we’re supposed to do shit. Jiu-jitsu is not waiting in line, of course it’s not hunting, or growing, or making something, but it’s challenging and active and nothing like waiting in line.
