Loyalty and the Dojo Shoot Out
I’ve been thinking of ways to promote the Jake Johnston Seminar we’re hosting in less than a week, so I’ve been looking on the internet and Facebook for pictures and other information about Jake to get people excited about coming to the seminar. I found a video that was really interesting. I decided not to put it up because although it was on the internet it seemed too personal. That won’t stop me from writing about it though.
So, the video is about thirty seconds long and the text that precedes the video explains that Jake went to “pay a visit,” to a guy who had claimed to have rolled with Jake for forty five minutes and Jake could not submit him. Apparently, they had rolled for five minutes and Jake had submitted him five times. Anyway, this upset Jake enough that he went to the guy’s school and tapped him out in 24 seconds (this is on video).
Going to another man’s school and putting a whipping on him in front of his own students reminds me of the Wild West. It also reminds me of watching Rickson fight a Lute Livre guy on the beach in the Gracie Jiu-Jitsu in Action video. Jake takes jiu-jitsu very seriously, and he’s a Gracie jiu-jitsu loyalist. He’s dedicated a serious amount of his life to jiu-jitsu and I’m looking forward to the seminar.

Hey sir, this really has nothing to do particularly with your post, but I wanted to let you know you’ve inspired me to start writing again, albeit about jiu jitsu. My new blog is here: http://tapoften.wordpress.com/ – I wanted to get the idea across that in jiu jitsu, it’s ok to tap; it’s the only way you’re going to learn. After posting my first entry, I realized that the name is a touch similar to yours – for that, you have my apologies. If you’d like me to change it, please feel free to let me know. Anyway, thanks for the inspiration and helping me on the road to being a better grappler.
Keith, I checked out your blog. It’s awesome. I’ll put a link on my blog roll. Good job.
