thoughts from a jiu-jitsu company

The Seven Deadly Sins of Jiu-Jitsu:

1. Giving up your back (never, never, never give up your back)

2. Being too proud to tap (there are too many people that don’t want to tap, but that only happens for a short time. The first time your elbow pops because you were too proud, is usually the last. Everyone taps—do your joints a favor and tap when you get caught.)

3. Freaking out when you get frustrated (freaking out because you can’t get out from underneath a guy only makes it worse. Relax, collect yourself and use technique.)

4. Being malicious (Don’t be a dick and try and hurt people; you will be out of a place to train.)

5. Muscling (there’s always someone stronger—always—technique is king.)

6. Going too fast (going fast just gets you submitted more quickly, slow it down and use control.)

7. Bragging (it’s okay to be proud of yourself for tapping someone: it’s not okay to brag about it. Talk with your technique.)
