There’s nothing more inviting to me than a smile, especially a genuine smile. In the Academy I like smiles, and laughs, and friendship. I used to sing when I trained (I’ve since stopped because sometimes people think I’m bored, and it hurts their feelings, but in my head I’m singing) because I am happy, happy to be there. I think you can tell the nature of a gym by how many people smile at you when you walk in the place.
I’ve been to gyms where everyone has furrowed brows, and bunched up muscles looking at you as if you were their worst enemy, and you don’t even know them. When people do that to me I just smile, sometimes I’ll wave. It always catches them off-guard, always, but for some reason it never changes their disposition. They still carry around that bad attitude. Smiling is a barometer, a measurement of one’s mood. It doesn’t mean you’re soft; it means you’re happy and confident.
