thoughts from a jiu-jitsu company

This is a painting of Daniel in the Lions’ Den. I’m not a very religious man, but I have certain beliefs and of course things I respect. This image to me is very powerful. The short story is Daniel was thrown into the lions’ Den because he wouldn’t stop praying to God, an angel was sent to protect him and the next morning he came out untouched.

Not to be sacrilegious, but this is how I feel sometimes, especially with jiu-jitsu. I can imagine the same scene, but with a man wearing a gi, and jiu-jitsu being his guardian angel.

Jiu-jitsu is my church, the mat–my alter, and I’ve never been closer to God than when in struggle with another man.
