thoughts from a jiu-jitsu company

Yesterday I tried to give away a cookie—chocolate chip. No one would take it. It was wrapped and it was lunch time and the people in the cafeteria line new me, but still no one would take the damn cookie.

Who doesn’t want a free cookie?

Well, I finally figured it out. I was in the salad line (no really, the salad line). People in the salad line for the most part are watching what they eat. Most of them don’t eat chocolate chip cookies. This was a great epiphany for me–a great and sudden realization. Although what I was offering was great and it was free, it wasn’t what the people in line wanted.

I’ve been trying to get people to try jiu-jitsu, for years and years, but I’ve finally figured out I’m asking the wrong people. I’m offering chocolate chip cookies to people who don’t want chocolate chip cookies.

So I have to get out of the salad line and into the jiu-jitsu line; I’m not sure exactly where that is, but I’m going to find it. I need to offer chocolate chip cookies to people who like chocolate.

Head to the chess club at school……..Not only are those guys strategic thinkers, they will probably love to try something that isn’t so stereotypical. They are patient, calm, and plan out their attacks. Damn, I’m starting to get worried about meeting a jitsu chess player!
