Fat Bird
I used to work at a cheese factory. It was alright. I remember sitting out front of the factory during breaks where they had giant mats at the entrance and exit of the building so you could scrape off any cheese left on your shoes when you left.
One day I noticed birds, swallows I think, would converge on the mats when there was no one there. They’d eat the cheese then fly off when someone either entered or exited the building. Another thing I noticed was that some birds waited until the last minute before they flew away. It was always the same bird that stayed the longest—he was the risk taker. He also happened to be the fattest bird. The other birds were sleek and nervous, but this bird was fat and fearless.
It’s my goal to be the fat bird in jiu-jitsu and in business—to be brave and stay longer than the frightened birds. In jiu-jitsu it might be trying new moves even though it may compromise my position. In business it may be to try something that no school or t-shirt company has ever done. I want to be the fat bird. The risk taker.
