thoughts from a jiu-jitsu company

I know it’s a little early for this but I’ve been thinking about sponsorships and celebrity endorsements. If I had a choice between someone like Chuck Liddell and an unknown creature from outer space that was phenomenal in jiu-jitsu, which one would I choose to represent the Tap or Die company?

This is a tough question.

So I made a rubric (a scoring tool that lists the criteria for something or “what counts”) to help me make the decision when the time comes.

1. Is he/she a meathead? (yes) (no)
2. Is he/she technical? (yes) (no)
3. Is he/she already famous? (yes) (no)
4. Do they have a good reputation as a fighter and person? (yes) (no)
5. Do they have a winning record? (yes) (no)
6. Are they humble? (yes) (no)
7. Do they represent jiu-jitsu? (yes) (no)
8. Are they focused? (yes) (no)
9. Are they boring to watch? (yes) (no)
10. Do they display good sportsmanship? (yes) (no)

Now that I have my questions, I assign points to each question along with what answer most aligns with Tap or Die’s identity. Here are the results out of twenty points:

Chuck Liddell: 14pts.
Alien: 18pts.

Using the rubric, Tap or Die would choose the unknown creature from outer space that was phenomenal in jiu-jitsu. I like Chuck, but he just wouldn’t fit with Tap or Die—sorry Chuck, but congratulations space alien.

Tap or Die is looking for people to sponsor. If you’re a phenomenal, jiu-jitsu practitioner, from outer-space you’re automatically accepted. Everyone else send in a tape or DVD.
