thoughts from a jiu-jitsu company

Tap or Die! is my company. Well, it’s still more or less an idea for a company, it’s still a seed now, but it will grow (from the root to the fruit). Today I will start by planting the seed.

What is it? What is Tap or Die? What will it be? That’s where I must start; I’ll have to start with a definition.

Definitions suck. Definitions are difficult and restricting and hard to come up with out of the blue, so I’m going to explain a vision for Tap or Die instead.

It looks like an office filled with comfortable couches, framed posters of Rickson Gracie and Helio and one or two of Kyra Gracie and maybe an autographed picture of BJ Penn, a couple of computers and two drawing tables, giant printers and screen printing equipment, boxes of t-shirts up to the ceiling, design samples held with silver tacks on giant corkboards, a large conference table in the middle of the room where heated debates on what designs and products truly represent Tap or Die!, and music of course, Marley, Eek-a-Mouse, Slick Rick and the Game and the Kooks.

The office should be a calm relaxed place where creativity sits on your shoulder and whispers ideas into your ear while you’re scribbling those ideas on an oversized white-board screwed into the wall. A place you don’t want to leave, a sanctuary for the development of a jiu-jitsu company called Tap or Die!
